Ukrainian saber-player Olga Harlan won the Grand Prix stage in saber fencing in Mexican Cancun. The Olympic champion was initially considered one of the favorites, having received the second seed number.
In the course of the competition, Olga confidently advanced on the tournament grid, defeating the Korean Seon Vaughn (15:12), the Russian Olga Nikitin (15:6), the Chinese woman Hengui Yang (15:12) and the Korean woman, Wife Kim (15:13). In the semifinals, Harlan was waiting for another Olympic champion, Yana Yegoryan – a principled opponent, because it was she who beat Olga in the semifinals of the Games in Rio. This time the Ukrainian managed to take revenge in a stubborn confrontation – 15:14.
In the final, Olga was somewhat simpler than at the previous stage. Here, she did not leave a chance for the eighth saber-player of the tournament – Italian Arianna Errigo (15:6).
